SLOW FASHION AND SUSTAINABILITY

WHY WE OPERATE ON PRE-ORDERS

We are a small team that designs and produces everything but the fabric in house and we believe it is important to have a personal relationship with everyone who helps bring our vision to life. To help eliminate waste, our production team begins cutting and sewing your order once it has been placed. This process can take up to two weeks and helps us eliminate unused inventory. With pre-orders, we set delivery expectations and provide you with a date that all items will ship out.

To handle order influx when we release new collections we have in house production runs. It is produced with limited stock and once it sells out we cut and sew along our 1-3 week pre-order time period. This allows us to balance out areas of the team and continue to create towards the future of Centrella.

WHY LOS ANGELES?

Working in the fashion industry for close to 7 years and running her merchandise based brand ManEater while actively doing research prior to starting Who Is Centrella in Spring 2020 Sarah realized many factories overseas and within Los Angeles were operating unethically and not pay their employees fair living wages. By creating all collection pieces in LA with people Sarah knows, she is actively able to meet with each employee or contractor she brings on and pay above the minimum wage for production. We currently operate by hourly wages with all employees within Centrella and by a set rate agreed upon outside contractors and Sarah.

HOW OUR DESIGN PROCESS WORKS

We have established a few classic, timeless pieces that will always be a core part of the Who Is Centrella line. These items include pieces from our ruffle and knit collections. However, each season we plan to release a few limited edition collections and pieces that will only be available to order for a short period of time or until they have sold out.

CENTRELLA REPAIR AND UP CYCLE SERVICE

TEXTILE AND FABRIC

Our goal is to release clean linen fabrics, as well as, other sustainable knitwear. We continue to research and source textile mills in the US that are creating designs that align with our sustainability beliefs for future collections. Our original ruffle fabric is about 25% polyester and we have high hopes of replacing that fabrication soon.

PERSONAL NOTE FROM SARAH (CREATOR/DESIGNER OF WHO IS CENTRELLA)

“I aim to create pieces that stand out for special occasions and pieces that are versatile and can be mixed and matched for different day to day occasions. As a designer who loves fashion but doesn’t love shopping or the wastefulness of the industry I have chosen. I strive to keep my closet simple with pieces I truly love and know I will wear for years or recycle for upcoming seasons to come. You don’t have to start your process of becoming a more ethical shopper by throwing out everything you own and going and purchasing only sustainable made garments. Slow fashion in my opinion is just shopping more consciously and ethically as well as taking a step back and thinking if you really need to add the garment to your closet. What makes a product or design special to you? Why buy if you don’t plan on keeping for a long period of time or passing along for someone else to love?

I think a lot of us have gotten used to instant satisfaction when it comes to consumerism and we live in such a capitalist driven society that I think it can lead to people being frustrated with the slow fashion process and might be uneducated when it comes to what a good and positive think they are buying and supporting into."
